{"id":25,"date":"2019-01-25T19:16:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T19:16:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/activeapp\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2022-10-26T15:49:00","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T15:49:00","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/pt-pt\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h2>The Project<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h4>RefugeesWellSchool is a European funded Horizon2020 project carried out by seven different <a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/about\/#teamSection\">partners<\/a> in six European countries (Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the United Kingdom) and coordinated by Ghent University (Belgium).<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>The overall <strong>objective<\/strong> of the RefugeesWellschool is to further the evidence-base on the role of preventive, school-based interventions in promoting refugee and migrant adolescents&#8217; mental well-being, and on how they can be implemented in diverse educational settings. We put a specific emphasis on interventions furthering social support networks and social cohesion.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 20px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3>Our Mission<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\r\n<h4>Building and spreading knowledge on how psychosocial support interventions work for adolescent migrants and newcomers in schools.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 20px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-152\" src=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/activeapp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/about1-848x1024.jpg\" alt=\"adolescent-student\" width=\"226\" height=\"273\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>Social support has a strong protective impact on the well-being of young people. Social exclusion, stigma and discrimination however can lead to negative mental health consequences for young refugees and migrants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>We acknowledge the important impact of social support and cohesion on young people&#8217;s wellbeing. Therefore, the RefugeesWellSchool project looks in particular at interventions that work on social support and cohesion. One of the most important areas where young migrants and refugees can experience strengthened or hampered social support is the school.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>To better understand the influence preventive programmes can have in a school context, the <strong>RefugeesWellSchool<\/strong> project evaluates the effectiveness and implementation of five preventive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/interventions\/\"><strong>school-based interventions<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>In-Service Teacher Training and Teaching Recovery Techniques<\/li>\r\n<li>Classroom Drama Therapy program<\/li>\r\n<li>Welcome to school<\/li>\r\n<li>PIER intervention<\/li>\r\n<li>In-service Teacher Training<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button alignright\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/activeapp\/interventions\/\">See how it works<\/a><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 20px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We will study the effectiveness of these five different interventions in relation to the well-being of the refugee and migrant adolescents taking part in these interventions. Hereto, we use <strong>a broad conceptualisation of\u00a0well-being<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Reduced mental health problems<\/li>\r\n<li>Increased resilience<\/li>\r\n<li>Increased social support networks and positive inter-ethnic relationships<\/li>\r\n<li>School belonging and school attendance<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 20px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h3>Who is this for?<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>By implementing these interventions for adolescent migrants and refugees in schools across Europe, RefugeesWellSchool will increase the <strong>scientific evidence base<\/strong> on what works in which context. The project also support <strong>policy-makers and practitioners<\/strong> in the implementation of the interventions and in choosing the right intervention.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>The <strong>results<\/strong> of the implementation and the <strong>studies<\/strong> are widely\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/news-and-publications\/\"><strong>shared<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with our participants, with teachers and school staff, the general public, policy makers and academics.
