{"id":134,"date":"2019-02-10T14:17:30","date_gmt":"2019-02-10T14:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/activeapp\/?post_type=intervention&#038;p=134"},"modified":"2022-06-15T20:49:25","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T20:49:25","slug":"intervention-test","status":"publish","type":"intervention","link":"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/sv\/intervention\/intervention-test\/","title":{"rendered":"In-service teacher training"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>In-Service Teacher Training (INSETT) (responsible expert: NKVTS, Norway; implementing partners: NKVTS, Norway; Uppsala University, Sweden)<\/h4>\n<p>The INSETT intervention works with a <a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/manuals\/\">Manual<\/a>\u00a0and an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/refugeeswellschool.org\/implementation-protocols\/\">Implementation protocol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Watch our short <em><strong>video<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0VutFyJTYG4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> explaining the INSETT intervention<\/p>\n<p>The intervention, which is being developed by <strong>Lutine de Wal Pastoor<\/strong> (NKVTS), intends to strengthen teachers\u2019 competence and self-efficacy in three areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promoting refugee\/migrant students\u2019 mental health and psychosocial wellbeing;<\/li>\n<li>Encouraging positive interethnic relationships and strengthening school belonging;<\/li>\n<li>Fostering supportive interrelationships with parents, caregivers and\/or guardians to promote school involvement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other words, INSETT seeks to make <strong>teachers<\/strong> and <strong>schools<\/strong> (more) \u2018refugee competent\u2019 (Pastoor, 2015).<\/p>\n<p>The INSETT intervention runs over a period of <strong>10-12 weeks<\/strong>. It consists of three interrelated course modules, i.e., two collective learning modules (whole-day seminars) and \u2013 in between \u2013 an individual module (the Augeo online course).<\/p>\n<p>As a thematic framework, INSETT uses the Dutch Augeo Foundation\u2019s online teacher training course \u201cProviding support to refugee young people\u201d. This online course consists of <strong>8 sections<\/strong>, \u2018lectures\u2019 that can be followed flexibly and separately (4-5 hours of study in total). Each lecture deals with a special theme, including theory, case histories, exercises and recommendations for further reading.<\/p>\n<p>Certain themes of the online course are elaborated upon in the <strong>two full-day seminars<\/strong> for the participating teachers. A joint introductory seminar starts off the INSETT intervention and explains its goals, content, design and methods, as well as its implementation in relation to the particular national and institutional context. Furthermore, main migration terms are discussed, as well as how the refugee\/migration experience may have an impact on students\u2019 school functioning and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>After having completed the Augeo online course, a final follow-up seminar allows the participants to share their experiences and to elaborate more on certain topics of interest. Relevant topics here are, amongst others,\u00a0trauma and stress, the therapeutic \u2018window of tolerance\u2019 (Ogden et al., 2006; Siegel, 1999), self-regulation and other coping techniques (Schultz, 2013).\u00a0Another central topic is\u00a0identity and belonging, especially the importance of developing a sense of school belonging which increases students\u2019 well-being as well as the likeliness to succeed in school (Kia-Keating &amp; Ellis, 2007).<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>online Augeo course module<\/strong> included in INSETT can be accessed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augeo.nl\/en\/refugee-youth\/finnish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Finnish,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augeo.nl\/en\/refugee-youth\/norwegian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norwegian<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augeo.nl\/en\/refugee-youth\/swedish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swedish<\/a>\u00a0at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augeo.nl\/search\/augeo-teaches?subject=refugees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Augeo Academy online platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You want to know more?
